Project Title: "Reconstructing the Webbed World of the Surface Forces Laboratory"
Abstract: HTML, Hypertext Markup Language, is a relatively simple computer code that provides a way to create web pages. Using HTML I began the reconstruction of the web page for the Surface Forces Laboratory; I updated the material on this web page and also changed the format to make it more content-based than the existing web page. My goal was to make an accessible and informative web page for other interested laboratories, post-docs, graduate students, undergraduate students and interns, and funding sources interested in giving financial support to the Surface Forces Laboratory. Currently the Surface Forces Laboratory is composed of sixteen members, which include a faculty advisor, five post-docs, four graduate students, a technician, and office secretary, and four summer interns. The heart and sole of the Surface forces Laboratory is the Surface Force Apparatus (SFA). The SFA was created by UCSB Professor Jacob Iraelachvili and is used extensively to measure surface interaction for biological and non-biological applications. Included in the web page are desciptions of SFA methods, members in the laboratory, and current projects.
