Project Title: "The Development of Bio-Physics Experiments on the Molecular Interaction of Lipid Films using Langmuir Troughs."

Abstract:  The Langmuir-Blodgett(LB) Trough provides a means for depositing and analyzing ultra thin, very uniform layers of organic material with thickness in the order of 20 Å.  By studying LB troughs and the different bio-physical properties of various monolayer thin films, we developed a set of Bio-Physics laboratory experiments on molecular interactions in Lipid Films. Our experiments emphasized the major properties of the latter as well as the cutting-edge applications related to the technology of LB films. We also evaluated various prototype troughs and improved upon them until we found an economical model that had the ease-of-use and the adaptability required for students in undergraduate laboratory classes.
